Janashakthi Insurance PLC, a forerunner in the Life Insurance industry, celebrated 25 years of progress. Janashakthi Life Insurance Company was inaugurated on 15th September 1994 as the first ever specialised Life Insurer in Sri Lanka; the brainchild of Mr. C.T.A. Schaffter, who is fondly known as the father of Insurance in Sri Lanka.
“The inception of Janashakthi was linked to our founder’s earnest desire to make insurance accessible to everyone. The name ‘Janashakthi’, which translates to ‘strength of the people’ in both Sinhala and Tamil, speaks volumes of our ambition to provide the protection of Insurance to Sri Lankans of all walks of life, across the island. This idea is encapsulated in our purpose of uplifting lives and empowering dreams, and in the image of the clay lamp, which was chosen to symbolise the Company. Over the last 25 years, we are proud to have touched the lives of millions of Sri Lankans, evolving every day to be better, while staying true to our core value of serving the people of Sri Lanka with integrity,” commented Prakash Schaffter, Chairman of Janashakthi Insurance PLC.
Themed ’25 years onwards’, the Company’s anniversary celebrations honoured the Company’s roots, looking back with pride on its onwards march over a quarter-century, and envisioning its future growth.
“As we celebrate this milestone 25th year of the Janashakthi journey, we have returned to our roots to become a purpose driven, standalone Life Insurance solutions provider. We are proud and humbled to have had the opportunity to provide the protection and security of Insurance to our loyal customers for the last twenty-five years. In 2018, we launched our new organisational strategy, brand logo, branch network and digital systems in order to set ourselves up for future growth and offer our policyholders superior benefits, service and convenience,” said Jude Fernando, Director / Chief Executive Officer of Janashakthi Insurance PLC.
Over the course of 25 years, Janashakthi Insurance transitioned from its humble beginnings as a small, local, family owned business to become an independent, customer-centric and futuristic Iinsurance solutions provider, known as a key player within the Insurance industry. In 2018, Janashakthi Life relaunched its logo, bringing in the word ‘Life’ with a human element, and unveiled its communication strategy on the theme ‘unwavering strength’. Janashakthi Life opened its new Head office in the midst of the commercial hub of Colombo 02, and also established a brand new branch network with new state-of-the-art branches with customer friendly layouts. Further strengthening its sales force, Janashakthi Life introduced the Advisor Virtual Office (AVO) system to allow sales staff to transact digitally through a handheld tab with an integrated system to help them connect to the head office and branch sales systems with ease. The Company’s new strategic focus prioritises people development with the intention of developing its valued employees and creating a collaborative culture.
The new strategic focus and initiatives have already begun to propel Janashakthi Life towards sustainable growth and industry leadership on par with its 25 year onwards journey of progress.
