INSEE Ecocycle Lanka (Private) Limited, a fully owned subsidiary of Siam City Cement (Lanka) Limited (INSEE Cement), recently successfully hosted the International Conference on Resource Efficiency Towards Sustainability (ICRES 2025) at Cinnamon Life-City of Dreams, Colombo. The conference, themed “Resource Efficiency for a Resilient Future,” convened over 600 participants, including industry leaders, academic researchers, and innovators from Sri Lanka and around the world.

The landmark event featured an inaugural ceremony, followed by technical sessions and a CEO forum titled “Future360: Connected Circularity.” Participants engaged in discussions across thirteen cutting-edge themes spanning the circular economy and resource efficiency spectrum, including advanced manufacturing technologies, renewable energy solutions, sustainable waste management, and the integration of AI for climate resilience.

Nandana Ekanayake, Chairman and CEO of INSEE Cement Lanka, stated, “With more than two decades of experience bringing international expertise to Sri Lanka, INSEE Ecocycle has a deep understanding of the challenges facing our industry. At INSEE, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles are embedded in our corporate DNA through the Sustainability Ambition 2030. We believe that innovation, creativity, and collaboration can solve these issues, which is why we’ve established this platform for collaboration through ICRES 2025.”

The conference facilitated knowledge exchange and the development of practical solutions, bringing together representatives from academia, government bodies, and the corporate sector. Participants explored transformative approaches to pressing environmental challenges while fostering cross-industry collaboration.

Sujith Gunawardana, Director of INSEE Ecocycle Lanka, added, “The path to adopting a circular economy in Sri Lanka’s waste management sector faces several challenges, including technological limitations, economic constraints, awareness gaps, and regulatory requirements. While INSEE Ecocycle leads in sustainable waste management, tackling these challenges requires collective action. We hosted ICRES 2025 to create a space for innovation and collaboration, where industry professionals, academics, and institutions can unite to advance circularity and sustainable development.”

A highlight of the conference was the ‘Circularity Challenge,’ which recognized innovations addressing resource circularity. Winners received recognition for their groundbreaking contributions to sustainable development solutions during the event.

GapHQ managed the conference in partnership with nine prestigious universities, including the University of Peradeniya, the University of Ruhuna, the University of Moratuwa, the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, the Curtin University Colombo, RMIT University, Michigan State University, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, and the University of Melbourne.

ICRES 2025 represents a significant milestone in INSEE Ecocycle’s ongoing commitment to driving circular economy transformation in Sri Lanka. Facilitating an international platform for collaboration, INSEE Ecocycle continues to lead in sustainable waste management practices, fostering innovation across industries to create a sustainable Sri Lanka for future generations.
