Industry Leader Sujeewa Mudalige retires after an illustrious career in professional services

PwC Sri Lanka today announced the retirement of its Territory Senior Partner, Sujeewa Mudalige, effective October 27, 2023, after serving the firm for over 25 years. Earlier the Sri Lanka firm of the PwC network had announced their decision to exit the network. The firm intends to join the Deloitte network, with effect from 28 October 2023.

Sujeewa Mudalige’s distinguished career encompasses key leadership roles, including his tenure as a current Commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka, past President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL), Chairman of the Sri Lanka Accounting Standards Committee, Past President of Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA), Board Member of the Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Monitoring Board (SLAASMB) and Deputy Chairman of the Financial Systems Stability Consultative Committee (FSSCC) of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka in addition to active participation in various committees within the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). Over the course of his remarkable journey, Sujeewa has left an indelible mark on the firm, contributing significantly to its growth, reputation, people engagement, and client service.

With an unwavering dedication spanning more than two decades, he steered the firm to unprecedented success, achieving remarkable milestones, venturing into new markets, and cultivating a prestigious clientele across diverse industries during his tenure as Managing Partner.

Sujeewa is respected as a preeminent authority in the realms of business, finance and auditing. Mudalige’s leadership extended beyond the boundaries of the firm. He served as a prominent voice in the Sri Lankan business community, contributing to the development of the accounting and auditing profession, allowing him to influence the industry’s best practices and ensure high ethical standards.

Sujeewa Mudalige, who joined the firm as partner in 1998, was appointed Managing Partner in 2017. He played a pivotal role in the firm’s growth, reputation, and excellence in client service. Reflecting on his tenure, Sujeewa said, “It has been an honor and a privilege to lead PwC Sri Lanka for the past six years. I am immensely proud of what we have achieved together as a team. I am also grateful to our clients, partners, regulators, and other stakeholders for their trust and support throughout my journey. As I prepare to retire, I am confident that our firm is in good hands with Channa Manoharan at the helm and an excellent team.”
