A Blood Donation camp to replenish stocks at the Hambantota Base Hospital held on the last day of August was supported by the Hambantota International Port (HIP).

“HIP’s CSR programmes are developed under a sustainability master plan which connects 4 pillars i.e. environment, health & safety, community development, religious and cultural engagement. Whilst each of these silos has its own importance and events are earmarked on our CSR calendar, we are always endeavouring to see how we can connect the dots in fulfilling engagements across silos.  In explaining this further, we want to see how we can integrate all 4 silos so that they complement each other.  Community health is important to us and therefore our participation in this blood donation programme, helps in fulfilling our obligations on the health and safety silo.  At the same time, our donation of a budded coconut sapling for every person who donated blood from the area, ticks our ‘caring for the environment box,’ says Johnson Liu, CEO of the Hambantota International Port Group (HIPG).

The port partnered with the Hambantota District Secretariat who organised the blood donation programme which gathered more than 150 people from the area to donate for the cause.  Staff members of HIP also volunteered for the blood donation campaign.

The blood donors were treated with a small meal and refreshments and each donor received a budded coconut sapling as a token of appreciation.
