Great Place to Work® in Sri Lanka To Unveil The Best Workplaces in Technology Industry for 2024

The tech industry in Sri Lanka plays a pivotal role in driving digital transformation across the nation. Acknowledging this significance, Great Place to Work® in Sri Lanka recently completed its annual study on the Best Workplaces™ in Sri Lanka’s Technology sector by evaluating Tech organizations that achieved Great Place to Work Certification™ from May 2023 to May 2024. The rigorous assessment process focused on the consistent experience of trust, values, leadership effectiveness, innovation and employees reaching their full human potential- no matter who they are or what they do.

The study, now in its fifth consecutive year, surveyed over 6000 employees from IT and IT- enabled services, achieving an impressive average response rate of 90%. This year, ten exceptional organizations have been recognized as the ‘Best Workplaces’ for their Great Place to Work For All™ culture and will be recognized and awarded for their efforts on the 27th June at Moonstone Amethyst, Hilton Colombo.

The event which is open to the public, will also be a learning and networking forum themed ‘Decoding the Future of Work in the Technology Industry’ which will delve into the dynamic landscape of the Technology Industry. Through insightful discussions and expert perspectives the event aims to explore the latest trends shaping workplaces within the Technology Industry and provide opportunity for networking and learning from the Best Workplaces™.

Methodology and Key Findings – Ruwani Alwishewa – Practice Head of Assessment Business & Client Services at Great Place to Work® in Sri Lanka explained that the evaluation process for the Best Workplaces™ is based on two primary lenses: the Trust Index© employee perception survey and the Culture Audit© people practice submission. The Trust Index© survey, which accounts for 75% of the total score, captures the employee experience, while the Culture Audit©, making up the remaining 25%, assesses the practices in place to sustain employee experience over time.

The Key findings from the study indicated a general erosion of trust among many participating organizations, exacerbated by repercussions of the economic crisis. Despite these challenges, the ten Best Workplaces excelled, maintaining a remarkable 93% average positivity rate in employee trust, compared to 82% average among other organizations, thus widening the gap.

The study highlighted the strength of the Best Workplaces to be, Organizational Pride, where 95% of employees expressed pride in their workplace, Management Integrity was a key driver  showcasing that reliable leadership was a crucial factor in employees perceiving their workplaces as great. While Compensation and Benefits is a key differentiator with the Best 10 scoring 86% compared to the 68% score among other organizations, it remains a key focus for future improvement for the sector.

The Way forward for the industry – To ensure continued success and resilience, tech organizations in Sri Lanka should focus on fostering a high-trust, high-performance culture, strengthening leadership integrity, and enhancing benefits that encourage employees to build a career locally.  Investing in employee development and well-being will be crucial in recruiting and retaining talent and in maintaining a competitive edge.

Overall, through this recognition The Best Workplaces™ will enjoy enhanced reputation as an employer of choice to attract top talent. However by taking action for improvement using the insights from reporting all participating organizations can drive innovation, motivation, retention and achieve higher performance.

Great Place to Work®’s mission is to help transform every workplace into a Great Place to Work For All™, fostering a High-Trust, High-Performance Culture™ that benefits businesses, employees, and society..
