The Grand Opening Ceremony of International Inter-Ministerial Conference on South-South and Triangular Cooperation in Population and Development: ICPD 30- Moving Forward held on 8 July 2024 Monday at the Ball Room of Pan Pacific Sonargaon, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

 



 

The Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, in collaboration with Partners in Population and Development (PPD) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) organized the 21st International Inter-Ministerial Conference on South-South and Triangular Cooperation in Population and Development: ICPD 30- Moving Forward on 8-9 July 2024 at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon, Dhaka.

13 Minister of Health, Finance and Population and 23 High-Officials from PPD’s Member Countries. Representatives from UN Agencies, Policymakers, UN Agencies, Regional and International participants attended this 2-days conference.

The conference culminates in adopting the “Dhaka Declaration,” featuring tangible commitments and actionable recommendations for revitalized South-South Cooperation toward achieving ICPD30+ and SDGs.

The opening session gathered state leaders from PPD member countries and ambassadors/high commissioners from diplomatic missions in Bangladesh following the Ministerial session where 13 Ministers conducted the session as High-level Panelists. After that, the other sessions were on Achieving SRHR goals through SSTC, Leveraging SSTC for Universal Health Coverage, Demographic Dividend, Sustainable Development, Innovation-Technology and Data through SSTC, and Resource Mobilization in the Context of SSTC.

 The conference generates political commitments from member countries to promote South-South Cooperation in achieving ICPD30 and sustainable development amidst demographic change. Each session will include specific objectives and questions for panelists and political leaders to ensure effective and actionable outcomes.

Dr. Thierry O. LAWALE, Director of Mother and Chield Health,  of Government of the Republic of Benin. Dr. Mohamed A. Sheikh, Director-General, National Council for Population and Development (NCPD), Government of the Republic of Kenya. Ms. Irene Ashikhongo Muhunzu, Assistant Director, National Council for Population and Development (NCPD), Government of Kenya. Dr. Ukik Kusuma Kurniawan, Head of PULIN BKKBN, Government of the Republic of Indonesia. Ms. LI Wei, Deputy Director General, Department of International Cooperation, China National Health Commission. Ms. XU Yongjun, Deputy Director General, Department of Population Surveillance and Family Development, China National Health Commission.
