Sri Lanka’s largest mercantile-level sporting event, Gamer.LK’s Mercantile Esports Championship powered by SLT-MOBITEL concluded recently with Global System Solutions (GSS) emerging as the overall Champions for the third consecutive year.

GSS emerged victorious with the most gold medals and thereby securing the Championship for the second year. Orel IT clinched second place and HSBC EDPL won third place.

“GSS takes pride in being the overall Mercantile Esports Champion successively for 3 years and continues to participate in this great event. Our thanks to the organizing team for the excellent work put in towards this year’s Championship as well as the constant support extended to all participants.” said Ian Bertus, the Chief HR & Legal Officer of GSS.

MEC ‘22 drew more than 1300 employees from 80 companies participating in 22 game titles. With over 250 matches played, the championship gave gaming enthusiasts the opportunity to represent their companies in Esports.

Recognised in 2019 as the 70th official sport in Sri Lanka by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Esports continues to grow at a rapid pace and is widely regarded as the country’s ‘fastest-growing sport’.

“Gamer.LK’s Mercantile Esports Championship continues to grow in number of participants and companies each year. Esports is increasingly becoming a core interest in the world of sport and these numbers matter to the mercantile sector of Sri Lanka. We are very excited at the prospect that more and more companies are understanding and integrating Esports into their workplace models and we look forward to new ways of supplementing this growing interest.”, said Raveen Wijayatilake, the Founder of Gamer.LK and CEO of InGame Esports.

“Telecom and the Internet are particularly essential to the esports industry. SLT-MOBITEL aims to play a significant role as an enabler of esports and help to grow the local gaming ecosystem collectively, We powered MEC ’22 as the title sponsor working closely with Gamer.LK as a natural extension of our commitment to provide professional players and amateurs, connectivity and skills to realize their potential, cultivate outstanding esports players and let them shine internationally,” noted Prabhath Dahanayake, Group Chief Marketing Officer, SLT-MOBITEL.

The Championship was powered by SLT-MOBITEL, the National ICT Solutions Provider who were also the title partner.
