How do I cope with a crying baby?
It can be tough when your little one won’t stop crying. But, take a deep breath and know that you’re doing an amazing job. When those tears start flowing, try holding baby close and gently rocking. Sing a soothing lullaby or say soothing words softly. Sometimes, a warm bath or a change of scenery can also work wonders. And, remember, each baby is different, so trust your natural maternal instincts and know that this phase will pass. Chandima Ekanayake – Deputy Manager — Technical Insurance – Mother of one
Is it ok to go on long car rides with a new-born?
Doing anything with a baby requires putting safety first, so always make sure to use a rear-facing car seat to ensure that your baby is not only safe but also comfortable. Having support from your partner or others journeying with you can be a huge advantage. Travelling, by car or any other way, with a new-born requires extra planning and care. Long car journeys can be a little daunting, but don’t worry, you’ve got this. Make sure to schedule regular breaks for feeding, changing diapers, and giving your little adventurer some cuddles and stretches. Ultimately, it’s not about the destination, but the beautiful moments you share along the way. Hasanthika Wijenayake – Senior Executive – HR – Mother of two
Should I get insurance and, if so, how?
Yes, if you can, you should, as it provides an additional layer of safety and security. It’s important to consider insurance options that can offer financial protection for your entire family, including your baby. Having the right insurance coverage can help safeguard against unexpected events and provide peace of mind. Common types of insurance that you could consider as a new parent would be, health insurance and life insurance. These types of coverage can help ensure that you and your family are protected in case of medical emergencies or unforeseen circumstances. In fact, we at Allianz Lanka have designed a comprehensive product, Allianz Suwasahana, which understands the importance of providing financial security that can cover your entire family including your children. At what age should I begin childproofing our home?
It’s best to begin childproofing before your baby starts crawling. Think of childproofing as an extra layer of love and protection for your home. Secure cabinets, doors, stairs and any other dangerous areas. Remember to cover those tempting electrical outlets and remove any small objects that could find their way into curious little hands (and mouths! If it’s big enough to put in, they will!). Walk around your home and try to see things from your baby’s perspective. You’ll find all sorts of creative ways to keep them safe. Keep in mind that childproofing is all about creating a nurturing environment for your little one to thrive. It’ll help you do your best. Kaumalee Amaradiwakara – Senior Manager — Life Operations – Mother of one
Do I need a routine with my new-born?
Routines can be a lifesaver. Establishing a flexible schedule helps create a sense of comfort and predictability. Start by setting regular times for feeding, napping, and playtime. Be open to adjusting as your baby’s needs change. Having said that, some days may just feel like a mess, but that’s totally ok. Embrace the chaos, knowing that you’re building a strong foundation of love and stability for your little one. Shazmina Sheriff – Partnership Manager – Mother of two
