Fonterra Brands Sri Lanka, the company behind Anchor, won high acclaim at the National Convention on Quality and Productivity (NCQP) 2019, attaining a total of four awards: three Golds and one Silver. With more than 100 companies competing, the awards are recognition of Fonterra’s capabilities in delivering consistently high quality dairy products to Sri Lankans while maintaining the highest level of productivity and food safety and quality standards.

Two of the gold-winning projects took place at Fonterra’s local dairy processing plant, which is focused on providing consumers with the highest-quality dairy products made from locally-sourced milk. These projects were recognised under the Quality Circles and Continuous Improvement categories, for adopting food safety and quality best practices to reach the goal of zero wastage; and for achieving a 50% reduction in wastage for materials on the Co-op’s yoghurt manufacturing form-fill-seal (FFS) machine.

Fonterra also won Gold and Silver awards respectively in the same categories for two projects at its powder processing plant. The winning projects focused on optimising processes to double productivity and reduce wastage, and for developing a machine optimisation plan to achieve higher efficiency in the packing process.

Associate Director for Integrated Supply Chain, Kamal Geeganage said, “Winning Gold and Silver Awards at a national platform for quality and productivity is a tremendous achievement, and we are extremely proud of our manufacturing and operations teams who continually demonstrate the highest levels of dedication.

“We recognise that operating at unparalleled levels of quality and productivity is an ongoing journey and we will continue to encourage the individual efforts of our teams as we work towards this goal. These awards recognise their achievements and contributions in ensuring consistent quality, efficiency and sustainability in all areas of our operations,” he said.

The NCQP Awards are presented annually by the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Quality and Productivity and aim to promote quality and productivity in Sri Lanka as well as encourage employee involvement and leadership in performance excellence.

Gold winners are eligible to represent Sri Lanka on the international stage at the next International Convention on Quality Control Circles.
