
The Mercantile Badminton Association (MBA), one of Sri Lanka Badminton’s (SLB) most active affiliates, will conduct its annual MBA All-Island Open Badminton Championships 2025 from during May. The National Ranking Level 1 tournament, sanctioned by SLB, has been slotted to take place from May 19th to 25th at two venues in Colombo – the MBA Indoor Courts and the Lumbini College Sports Complex.
Expected to draw Sri Lanka’s top ranked shuttlers during the week-long competition, the MBA is now in the process of accepting entries for the MBA All-Island Open Badminton Championships 2025, where competitions are expected to place under different categories.
The championship will feature a wide range of events from Under-11 to Under-19 in the Junior category and Over-30 to Over-70 in the Senior category, including Combined Age groups of 100+ for Veterans. However, the main attraction of the competition will be the Open events comprising of Men’s and Women’s Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles, with the losers of Men’s and Women’s Singles from their first games guaranteed a passage to the Plate Segment.
The opening ceremony of the MBA All-Island Open Badminton Championship 2025 is expected to take place on May 19th at 9:00am, and will be followed by the preliminary rounds, leading up to the quarter-finals and semi-finals by May 23rd. The excitement will continue on May 24th and 25th with the highly anticipated semi-finals and final matches, followed by the Closing Ceremony to mark the culmination of the seven-day championship.
The main draw seeding will be determined based on SLB Ranking as of May 13th, followed by the draw on May 15th at No.2, Cambridge Terrace, Colombo 7. A combined prize money of Rs.750,000 for all events based on the number of entries will be on offer, in addition to trophies, medals and certificates guaranteed for winners, runners-up and semi-finalists of each event of the tournament. Junior winners will receive appropriate gifts instead of prize money, according to the decision taken by the tournament organisers.
