In a move to foster the professional development of future leaders in the IT and BPM industry, SLASSCOM, the Sri Lanka Association of Software and Service Companies, proudly introduced its groundbreaking Professional Skills platform at several leading universities. The initiative aims to equip students with essential professional skills, enhancing their employability and readiness for the dynamic challenges of the workforce.

The SLASSCOM Professional Skills platform was introduced with a twofold objective – to launch a transformative tool for empowering the next generation of professionals and to educate university students on the critical role professional skills play in the IT and BPM industry. Recognizing the changing landscape of the job market, SLASSCOM has taken a proactive step in ensuring that tomorrow’s workforce is well-prepared and equipped with the necessary skills.

At the helm of this initiative are industry experts and thought leaders who have been instrumental in shaping the success of SLASSCOM. Sanjeev Jayarathnam, an esteemed professional with a wealth of experience, is leading the charge in conducting workshops and sessions. The sessions cover a wide range of topics, including Communication and Presentation Skills, Effective Meeting Strategies, Leadership, and Coaching and Feedback.

The SLASSCOM Professional Skills free courses, hosted on the SLASSCOM Academy platform, consist of 9 foundation level and 12 intermediary level offerings covering a total of 21 professional skills. The accessibility of these courses online ensures that students can enhance their professional skills at their own pace and convenience free of any cost.

The workshops conducted at universities, including Sabaragamuwa, J’pura, Vavuniya, Wayamba, Ruhuna and UCSC have seen enthusiastic participation from over 1600 students. Online sessions were also conducted for students at the SLT Training Centre, Welisara and OUSL. The focus of these workshops was to instill an understanding of the importance of professional skills in the IT and BPM industry, particularly for graduates and young professionals.

The SLASSCOM Professional Skills platform is poised to guide the future workforce toward success, envisioning a dynamic IT and BPM industry in Sri Lanka. This vision encompasses a workforce that not only possesses enhanced skills but is also characterized by adaptability and empowerment.
