02 March 2025--energy (LBN)

Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Advisor Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan exchanged views with worshippers at the Kakrail Circuit House Mosque in the capital on Sunday 02 March 2025, after Asr prayers, to raise awareness about the moderate and economical use of electricity for uninterrupted power supply during the upcoming summer and irrigation seasons and the holy month of Ramadan.

Addressing the devotees, he said, “We need your cooperation to avoid any further hardship due to load shedding.” He requested them not to lower the temperature of ACs below 25 degrees, otherwise they will consume a lot of electricity and may be subjected to load shedding. Apart from mosques, he urged them to take care not to use excessive lighting and unnecessary fan lights in homes, shops, shopping malls, petrol pumps and CNG stations.

During a briefing with journalists after exchanging views with the devotees, the advisor said, “There is an energy crisis in the country, gas is running out. We have to import energy to meet the demand, resulting in the expenditure of a huge amount of foreign exchange.”

Noting that the demand for electricity for irrigation and the Ramadan season is increasing significantly this year, Fauzul Kabir said, “In winter, our demand is 9-10 thousand megawatts, but in summer, due to the increase in temperature, it increases to 17-18 thousand megawatts.”

He also said that irrigation requires 2,000 megawatts of electricity, it is not possible to stop irrigation, as this will disrupt production. The remaining 5-6,000 are needed for air-conditioning and additional lighting. Requesting that the AC temperature be set at 25 degrees, he said that it is a very comfortable temperature, there is no shortage of electricity in Malaysia, yet they have set the AC temperature at 25 degrees.

The advisor also said that people from the Electricity Department are going to make them aware so that they do not use excessive lighting in shops, petrol pumps, CNG stations and shopping malls.

Advisor Fawzul Kabir said that a total of four cargoes of fuel, including one additional cargo, are being imported to maintain normal power supply during Ramadan. He expressed hope that if people are aware and do not use electricity unnecessarily, there will be no load shedding during this Ramadan.

Responding to a question from reporters whether any action would be taken against illegal electricity connections, he said, “Like gas, action is being taken against illegal electricity connections.”
