Doner & Durum Expands with New Thalawathugoda Location

Where Mediterranean Delights Blend with Local Flavours

Doner & Durum (D&D), a distinguished Mediterranean and Turkish restaurant recently opened its second location in Thalawathugoda. Established in 2018, Doner & Durum has swiftly become a favourite among food enthusiasts, offering a unique fusion of Mediterranean flavours tailored to the local palate.

Founded by a group of university friends — Seyed Waqar Moulana, Sharanga Hettiarachchi, Nikira Senanayake, Abdul Khaliq Ghouse, and Atif Haariz. Recognising the scarcity of gourmet fast food options in Sri Lanka, they entered the food industry to introduce the flavours of their international culinary experiences to the local market. The Thalawathugoda location is larger and more vibrant than its predecessor in Thimbirigasyaya and is set to offer an enhanced dining experience.

Managing Director and co-founder Waqar Moulana reflects on their journey, “Inspired by the rich flavours of Mediterranean heritage and the vibrant spices of traditional dishes, we aimed to introduce a fresh and gourmet culinary experience to Sri Lanka. Through extensive experimentation and dedication, we’ve perfected our recipes to cater to our customer’s tastes.”

Signature items at D&D include the popular German fast food dish Doner, which consists of a Turkish flatbread pocket filled with house-made sauces, fresh vegetables and meat. Other highlights are Durums, commonly known as shawarma, as well as a variety of burgers, Majboos an Arabic rice dish, signature hummus and the crowd-favourite Snack Pack, which features a layer of fries topped with mozzarella and meat. What sets them apart is their unique cooking style, where the meat is marinated and prepared on a vertical rotisserie, ensuring the spices and flavours are retained in every bite.

The new restaurant, located at 534/4 Madiwela Road, Ruhunupura, Thalawathugoda, boasts a spacious two-story dining area that can comfortably seat over 40 guests. The foyer welcomes diners with a high ceiling, an open-bulb chandelier, and plant décor, surrounded by the dining area adorned with wooden tables, Turkish carpets, and wall paintings. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows allow natural light to illuminate the space, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Director Sharanga Hettiarachchi emphasises, “At Doner & Durum, you can expect a feast for the senses. From kebabs and doners to a colourful array of beverages, sides, and appetizers, every visit promises an unforgettable experience. Our marination and vertical rotisserie cooking style lock in the flavours, ensuring a perfectly balanced taste in every bite.”

The Thimbirigasyaya location, known for its cosy and intimate setting, remains a popular choice in Colombo, accommodating up to 20 diners. It is ideal for small gatherings and medium-sized events.

Doner & Durum is open daily from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. for dine-in, takeaway and delivery, with delivery services available through Uber Eats and PickMe. For more information or to place an order, call or WhatsApp 078 397 7790.
