South Asia’s leading e-commerce platform and the Official E-commerce platform for the Asian Games 2022, Daraz has partnered with Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games Organizing Committee to promote and create awareness of the 19th Asian games that will be held from 23rd September to 08th October 2023 in Hangzhou, China.
As the excitement builds, Daraz will play a key role in promoting the event, spreading the Asian Games spirit far and wide with the Asian Games Official Fun Run, a time-honoured Asian Games tradition organized by the Olympic Council of Asia together with the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka with the objective of attracting more publicity to the host city and the game. The fun run was held recently at Colombo International Financial City (Port City).
The event was held in the presence of the Chief Guest, Mr. Chen Xiangyuan, Counsellor of the People’s Republic of China, Cap. Husain Al Musallam, Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia and Mr. Rakhil Fernando, Managing Director of Daraz Sri Lanka.
Sharing his thoughts at the Fun Run, Rakhil Fernando, Managing Director of Daraz stated, “The Asian Games’ Official Fun Run embodies the spirit of perseverance, determination, and sportsmanship. Daraz, as an organization that focuses on youth empowerment through the power technology and commerce, stands for courage and passion of true sportsmanship. I believe that the Asian Games will be a great opportunity for Sri Lankan youth to prove their mettle despite the challenging conditions in the country and we are excited to be a part of this sporting event that advocates a positive, winning attitude that will make the Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 a truly memorable experience. ”
Over 300 schoolchildren participated in the Fun Run to liven up this colourful event which was followed by a modern pentathlon game and an array of sports and cultural activities. Further affirming its commitment to empowering school children through sports and recreational activities, Daraz donated sports equipment to the students who participated at the event.
The jet ski show presented by Sri Lanka Navy and a traditional Martial Art -Angampora Demonstration performed by the Sri Lanka Army sports division were few other highlights of the event.
The 19th edition of the Asian Games which was originally scheduled for September 2022 was postponed due to the rapid spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Games will now be held under the motto of “Heart to Heart, @Future.” where 10,000 athletes from more than 45 countries will compete in the 40 sports at 482 events.
