The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) in collaboration with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) will hold the first workshop of the Technical Series titled “Preparing a Sustainability Report” on 12th September 2019, from 9.30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Winchester, Kingsbury. This workshop will focus on Materiality and Stakeholder Engagement, which are two key sustainability reporting elements.

The Technical Series aims to gather listed companies that do not engage in sustainability reporting at present and will act as an ideal platform to embark on a sustainability reporting journey. The workshop is part of a three-part series and involves no registration fee. Proactive participation in all three workshops of the series will offer participants perspective on why it makes business sense to adopt sustainable business practices and how to monitor manage and communicate sustainability performance. Participants will receive a certificate at the end of the series.

The series would be most relevant to those who would have a direct involvement sustainability projects implemented by the company across functions such as sustainability, HR, Communication, Finance, Operations, Corporate Planning, Risk, Health and Safety etc. No prior knowledge of sustainability reporting is required to attend the series.

CSE in collaboration with GRI, launched the ESG Guidance document titled ‘Communicating Sustainability: Six Recommendations for Listed Companies Version 02’ in March 2019. The Technical Series will refer to this publication and several other GRI resources and tools such as the GRI Digital Reporting Tool. The workshops will also feature speaking engagements on perspectives of reporting and investor expectations.

GRI pioneered sustainability reporting in the late 1990’s and has since become the globally accepted standard for enabling business, governments and other organizations to understand and communicate their impacts on critical sustainability issues. Today the framework is being used by governments, financial regulators, capital markets, businesses and civil societies in more than 100 countries around the world.

Listed companies that presently do not engage in sustainability reporting are welcome to nominate two representatives to attend the workshop by contacting 0112 356509 or koshila@cse.lk
