Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Adviser Md. Nahid Islam released commemorative postage stamps worth 10 taka and opening envelopes worth 10 taka on the occasion of World Postal Day. A special seal is used to mark the day.
Wednesday 09 October 2024: Advisor released the commemorative postage stamp and opening envelope in the office room of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications at the Secretariat in Dhaka.
On the occasion of the day, Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Adviser Md. Nahid Islam congratulated everyone in a statement.
Adviser Nahid Islam unveiled the cover of the special album Natural Beauty & Wildlife of Bangladesh Postage Stamps containing pictures of rare postage stamps of the postal department at the event.
It should be noted that on this day in 1874, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) was formed with the participation of 22 countries in Switzerland. In 1969, in the 16th session of the Postal Union, the proposal to declare October 9 as the world ‘Postal Union Day’ was unanimously accepted by the organization to commemorate the day of formation of the union. Later, in the 19th session of the Universal Postal Union held in Hamburg, Germany in 1984, the name of “World Postal Union Day” was changed to “World Postal Day”.
Post and Telecommunication Department Secretary Dr. Md. Mushfiqur Rahman, Director General of Postal Directorate SM Shahab Uddin along with other officials of the Directorate were present at this time.
