The Head of Islamic Banking at the Commercial Bank of Ceylon, Mrs Feroza Ameen, has been honoured for her contributions to Islamic Finance in Sri Lanka by UTO EduConsult, the organiser of the Sri Lanka Islamic Banking & Finance Industry (SLIBFI) conference and awards.
Mrs Ameen, who was involved in the setting up of the Islamic Banking Unit (IBU) at Commercial Bank in 2011, was presented the Gold in the ‘Women in Islamic Finance’ category, awarded for the first time this year.
Mrs Ameen has been also recognised as one of the 500 influential women in Islamic Business and Finance in 2023 by ‘WomanI’ – a publication of the Cambridge Institute of Islamic Finance, and was identified as an Icon in the ‘CIMA 50 – Business icons and trailblazers’ in 2021. In March 2024 at the inaugural IMRA Awards for Muslim women, she was awarded for Excellence in Banking & Finance (2024) which was one category recognised at these awards.
Mrs Ameen has attended many international and local conferences on Islamic banking and finance. Currently she represents the Bank at the Association of Alternative Financial Institutions (AAFI) as a member involved in promoting the Islamic banking concept in the country.
She played a key role in developing processes and strategies and formulating the Islamic Banking policy for Commercial Bank, which is maintained in alignment with the regulations and industry practices.
