
The Commercial Bank of Ceylon won five Gold awards at the LankaPay Technnovation Awards 2025, emphatically underlining the Bank’s leadership in payment technology innovation in Sri Lanka.
The Bank was presented the Overall Award for Excellence in Digital Payments (Banking Institutions) and Gold awards for ‘Best Common ATM Enabler of the Year,’ ‘Most Innovative Bank of the Year,’ ‘Best LankaPay Card Implementor of the Year,’ and ‘Best LankaPay Card Acquirer of the Year,’ at this prestigious event.
Additionally, the Bank won the Silver Award for ‘Best Bank for Retail Payments’ and the Bronze for ‘Best LankaQR Enabler of the Year,’ taking its tally of awards to seven.
The ‘Overall Award for Excellence in Digital Payments’ (Banking Institutions) is the highest recognition awarded by LankaPay to the most efficient and productive financial institution in digital payment processing. This coveted award is a testament to the Bank’s exceptional performance, innovation, and commitment to driving digital transformation in Sri Lanka’s financial sector, the Bank said.
This was the third consecutive year that Commercial Bank won the Gold award for ‘Most Innovative Bank of the Year,’ highlighting its success in digital transformation, customer convenience, and leadership in delivering innovative payment solutions. It also recognises the bank’s position as the largest processor of interbank payments (CEFTs) in Sri Lanka.
Commenting on these awards won by the Bank, Commercial Bank Managing Director/CEO Mr Sanath Manatunge said: “These awards are a fitting recognition of the Bank’s commitment to drive digital payment solutions, enhance customer convenience, and promote financial inclusivity and innovation, in line with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka’s objective of enhancing the country’s national payment network. We have developed and deployed several ground-breaking innovations to achieve this objective.”
Organised by LankaPay (Pvt) Ltd., Sri Lanka’s National Payment Network, the grand finale and awards ceremony of the LankaPay Technnovation Awards 2025 was held under the patronage of Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, as the Chief Guest.
The Commercial Bank of Ceylon was the first bank in the country to enable its entire automated teller machine (ATM) network to acquire and process ATM transactions through the EMV (Europay, Mastercard and Visa) integrated circuit, and the first to activate its entire EMV chip card base(Debit and Credit cards) to perform secured EMV transactions through the LankaPay ATM network, making it possible for the Bank’s own cardholders to securely perform transactions using other bank ATMs connected to the LankaPay network.
Commercial Bank is also one of the first banks in Sri Lanka to have its point-of-sale (POS) network accept LankaPay-JCB (Japan Credit Bureau) co-branded cards issued under the national card scheme programme.
Commercial Bank is the first Sri Lankan bank to be listed among the Top 1000 Banks of the World and has the highest market capitalisation in the Banking Sector in the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE).
