The Covid-19 pandemic led to a significant increase in poverty in Bangladesh, pushing formerly non-poor households into poverty, reveals a series of research projects conducted by the Covid-19 Learning, Evidence and Research Programme (CLEAR), a consortium of research organizations working in Bangladesh. The finding was part of emerging evidence from the CLEAR programme discussed at a conference on Knowledge, Power, and Change in Polycrisis: What Can We Learn from Bangladesh for the World, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the UK government and organized jointly by CLEAR, BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD), Brac University, and the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Sussex from 3-5 March 2024 Dhaka, Bangladesh.
on 05 March 2024 held at Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA). Closing plenary session “Empowered Knowledge to Build Forward Better” of CLEAR conference. In the Closing Ceremony of the conference, speakers encompassed 4 thematic sessions and 2 interactive sessions following the Opening and Closing plenary. CAMPE presented the key findings of its Education Watch 2023 in thematic session 3 – Crisis of Learning Loss: A Lost Generation? Executive Director of CAMPE Rasheda K. Choudhury spoke in the Closing plenary. Mr. Matt Cannell, Deputy High Commissioner and Development Director, British High Commission talked as the Chief Guest while Dr. Selim Jahan, Professor Rounaq Jahan, Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman, Dr. S R Usmani were among other guests.
A convening of the youth volunteers who emerged as a strong force during the COVID-19 pandemic in Bangladesh, where their collective efforts led to tackling challenges that arose during the crisis. They utilized digital platforms and innovations, and through volunteerism, they stood by the people.
During the BIGD and IDS CLEAR Conference, the youths came together in the session “Young Bangladesh: Youth Engagement and its Promises” to discuss what they did, how they approached various tasks, and their perspectives on future engagement spaces for youths and volunteers.
The conference focused on building a future knowledge agenda for Bangladesh that connects local concerns to global priorities and debates in development as well as draw on the work of CLEAR grantees to see how these connect to global debates on increasing inequality, inclusive institutions, digital innovations, knowledge hierarchies, and partnerships
