Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts Colombo Wins Big at Sri Lanka Tourism Expo 2022

Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo crowned Overall Champions

Colombo, Wednesday 30th 2022: Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts Colombo sector, led by Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo were adjudged Overall Champions at the recently concluded Sri Lanka Tourism Expo 2022. The competition organized by the Alumni Association of Tourism Economics and Hospitality Management (Alumni ATEHM) and the Tourism Study Programs, Department of Economics, University of Colombo with the Strategic Partnership of One Galle Face Mall and the industry partnership with the Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO), was held at One Galle Face from the 17-20 November. The primary objective of the Expo was to create a strong platform for tourism stakeholders to get together and find collective solutions to uplift the tourism industry.

Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo emerged Overall Champions with a total award haul of one Gold Excellence Trophy, 11 Gold Medals, 3 Silver and 1 Bronze Medal. M.Dhanushka Wijayarathne and G.Ushan Sajindra Jayaweera won the Gold Excellence Trophy for their unmatched live cooking skills while 9 gold Medals were won for Live Cooking, Dress the Cake, Cake Structures and Classic Cocktail making. Two further gold medals were won by the Engineering Department for their “Most Innovative Engineering Trolley” and by Angelo Reyhart who was adjudged the “Best Front Office Agent”. The three silver medals were won in the Dress the Cake competition and for the “Most Decorative Bed” created by N.K Sumathirathna of the Housekeeping Department, while the Bronze also came in the Classic Cocktail competition.

Cinnamon Red Colombo’s Samidu Rohan won a silver medal in the Flaring Cocktails competition while Lasitha Nilanga won a bronze in the Dress the Cake competition.

Meanwhile, the dynamic Mixologists at Cinnamon Grand Colombo walked away with several awards in the Cocktail competition as well, including Kumar Shanker who won Gold and an award for Outstanding Mixologist, and Sam Rangala and Dilara Gunasekara who both won Silver. Mangala N Munasinghe won the Outstanding Chef award for the Cake Structure category while Sujitha Lavanya also won gold in the same category. In the “Dress the Cake” competition W.G.N Bandara won the Outstanding Chef award while Saliya Wijemuni and W.A.R Duminda won gold. Overall Runners-Up Cinnamon Grand Colombo also won two silver medals in the live cooking competition.
