Chandrika de Silva shine bright at All England Senior Badminton Championships

Veteran shuttler Chandrika de Silva has made history becoming the first and only Sri Lankan to win medals at the 105th All England Senior (Masters) Badminton Championships 2023 in Hertfordshire Sports Village, England. 

Chandrika de Silva won  two Gold medals and a Silver medal in the recently concluded All England Senior (Masters) Badminton Championships. The tournament began on the 14th and came to an end on the 16th of April.

She clinched the Gold Medal in the Over 45 Singles beating Zoe Weller in the finals. De Silva completed dominated the finals winning the first set by 21-15 and then going on to win the second set by 21-9.

De Silva went on to secure the Gold Medal in the Over 45 Mixed Doubles teaming up with Morten Eilby Rasmussen. The pair beat Mark Constable and Lynne Swan in the finals by 2 sets to 1 (21-16, 15-21, 21-14).

In the Over 45 Women’s Doubles, de Silva paired up with Lynne Swan. They reached the finals and was up against the English pair of Jenny Adrian and Tracy Parker. Unfortunately, de Silva and Swan had to settle for Silver as Adrian and Parker won the game by 2 sets to 1.  (21-12, 17-21, 21-19)
