Two schools in Badulla and Balangoda that desperately needed additional classroom space have each received a purpose-built classroom thanks to the generosity of Ceylinco Life.
The two classrooms are the 86th and 87th donated by Sri Lanka’s life insurance market leader to schools in need in Sri Lanka under a long-running corporate social responsibility initiative that has continued through the global pandemic and the country’s economic crisis, which resulted in a significant rise in construction costs.
Ceylinco Life’s 86th classroom donation immediately benefits 134 students of Malpotha Sri Mahinda Vidyalaya Mirihawatta, Badulla, whose aesthetic studies classes were previously conducted under a tree. They now have a new classroom for their music and dancing lessons, and Ceylinco Life has undertaken to maintain the classroom for future generations of students.
Classroom No 87 in the Ceylinco Life programme benefits Rajawaka Maha Vidyalaya, Rajawaka, Balangoda, which has a student population of 800, and had restricted admissions due to a lack of classroom space. The new classroom will accommodate 39 students of Grade 3A who had occupied a temporary shelter previously, and enable more children to be admitted to the school, which has a reputation for quality education based on the good results achieved by its students.
The two classrooms entailed an investment of Rs 3 million by Ceylinco Life, and their construction and donation to the beneficiary schools were coordinated by the Ceylinco Life branches in Bandarawela and Balangoda respectively.
Every classroom built by Ceylinco Life over the years continues to be monitored and maintained by the Company to ensure it serves many generations of students.
Commencing with a classroom built for the Tissa Primary School in Lunugamvehera in 2004, Ceylinco Life’s schools infrastructure project has traversed the length and breadth of Sri Lanka, assisting schools in diverse locations such as Jaffna, Vavuniya, Trincomalee, Muttur, Batticaloa, Sittandy, Mollipatana, Ayithyamalai, Embilipitiya, Nivithigala, Beligala, Avissawella, Deniyaya, Kamburupitiya, Bandarawela, Haputale, Rambukkana, Kandy, Pilimatalawa, Madulkele, Rikillagaskada, Rajawella, Matale, Galgamuwa, Padaviya, Boraluwewa, Anuradhapura, Moneragala, Anamaduwa, Matugama, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Wellawaya, Talawa, Chilaw, Galagedara, Rathkarawwa, Hatton, Badulla, Nuwara Eliya, Welimada, Puttalam, Polonnaruwa, Matugama, Elpitiya, Kegalle, Sevanagala, Horana and Balangoda.
