Bringing clean water and lasting hope to three schools in Oddusudden in the Mulative District, Central Industries recently initiated a pure drinking water project, with the assistance of Sri Lanka Army 64th Division, that was handed over officially to the schools, assuring year-round access to clean drinking water. The resources and required funding was provided by National PVC with the labour support provided by the troops of 14 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, 23 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and 17th (Volunteer) Gajaba Regiment under command to 641 and 642 Brigades.

The initiative will help in fighting waterborne diseases and other health issues arising from contaminated water.Additionally, it will give new avenues for better hygiene due to the significance of handwashing, which is essential in preventing the spread of coronavirus.

This occasion was patronized by Major General UGR Weerakoon General Officer Commanding 64th Division as well as the Marketing Manager of National PVC Dealer Network Mr. Sapumal Herath together with Sales Manager, Group Brand Manager, Area Sales Manager, distributor in area, and other key officers, 642 Brigade, Officers, Other Ranks, Principals, Teachers, and students.

Mr.Sapumal Herath commenting on the initiative noted “We believe clean water is a right, not a privilege. We know that clean water means everything to communities in need: it prevents death from water-borne illness and improves community health. As a responsible corporate citizen, our company’s CSR initiative includes helpingin providing safe drinking water, education support and many other activities. As such we are happy that this project has resulted in school children and the area population now having the benefit and accessibility to pure drinking water, whereas earlier, they had to walk for hours in tough climatic conditions to collect a pinch of pure water. This project therefore is a reflection of our mission to uphold the human right to access safe and clean water while also maintaining a sustainable environment.”
