Sri Lanka, August 18, 2022: At the end of another difficult year for students and schools, hundreds of students in Sri Lanka can celebrate this month after receiving their Cambridge International AS & A Level, and Cambridge IGCSE & O Level exam results.

Cambridge International, part of the University of Cambridge and the largest provider of international education for 5 to 19-year-olds, released the results of its June 2022 exam series to Cambridge IGCSE and O Level students in Sri Lanka and around the world today. Cambridge International AS & A Level results were released on 11 August.

In total, nearly half a million students worldwide entered Cambridge exams in June 2022, including nearly 2500 students in Sri Lanka. June 2022 saw 1.4 million entries for Cambridge exams from schools in 147 countries.

Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, exams went ahead in nearly all countries this year with more than 220,000 students making entries for Cambridge International AS & A Level and 250,000 students entering Cambridge IGCSE and O Level qualifications globally in June 2022. Where exams could not go ahead because of local Covid-19 restrictions, Cambridge International provided an alternative assessment, marked by Cambridge examiners.

Cambridge International engaged with education authorities, governments, and schools worldwide to ensure the June 2022 exam series ran safely and provided support to help students and teachers to adapt running of exams and other assessment to the disruption caused by Covid-19.

Students in Sri Lanka have been able to gain the qualifications they need to take their next steps, which is a testament to their resilience and the ongoing support of their teachers, families, and communities.

Maths, English and Computer Science were the most popular Cambridge IGCSE and O Level subjects, and Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry were the most popular Cambridge International AS & A Level subjects in Sri Lanka.

Christine Özden, Chief Accountable Officer, Cambridge International said: “This year has been another tough one – the pandemic has continued to disrupt our lives and learning in different ways. Some of our students and teachers have been affected by school closures and ongoing restrictions.

“More than ever, I congratulate Cambridge students for their hard work towards these results. They’ve shown great resilience and dedication to get to this point, and I am proud of everyone’s achievements. They can now progress to new opportunities and experiences, and I’m confident they have the skills, knowledge and courage to succeed in every choice they make.

“I also want to express special thanks to Cambridge schools and teachers. Their commitment and passion for education has been fundamental to their students’ success.”

Mahesh Srivastava, Regional Director, South Asia at Cambridge Assessment International Education, said: “I would like to congratulate all our students in Sri Lanka on their results. This year has been a transformational year in students’ educational journeys. With schools reopening and on-campus learning resuming, students prepared with a dedication to ace the series. The performance of students in Sri Lanka has been remarkable and we are proud of their achievements. I would also like to congratulate schools on the support they have given to students, the success of the series and smooth completion of the exams.”

More than 50 schools across Sri Lanka offer Cambridge programmes and qualifications to their students. The Cambridge Pathway curriculum offers flexibility and choice to students and schools, with over 70 subjects available at Cambridge IGCSE and over 55 subjects offered at Cambridge International AS & A Level, and a choice of two exam series each year.
