Colombo, Sri Lanka, November 2022 – Calcey—a US and Sri Lanka-based technology consulting and software product engineering services provider, announced the launch of the ‘Calcey Springboard’ Scholarship Program for students wishing to pursue a career in Software Engineering. The Program will award numerous unconditional scholarships amounting to a total of LKR 10 million; applications close on November 30, 2022.

Offered as an open-for-all scholarship scheme – Calcey Springboard scholarships will be awarded to the most deserving students based on performance in a cognitive test. Over a period of 12-months, scholarship winners will be guided by Calcey’s own Engineering leaders through a curriculum comprising MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) from the world’s best universities and institutions. Springboard will also fully sponsor each learner to obtain verified credentials for each course in the program. Learners will face a test at the end of each semester to gauge their academic progress.

Commenting on the scholarship program, Founder and CEO, Calcey- Mangala Karunaratne stated: “Calcey just turned 20 years old, but this journey wouldn’t have been possible without access to Sri Lanka’s unmatched tech talent. We all have a responsibility to send the elevator back down and do our part to make things better for those who come after us, particularly in the current socio-economic context where high quality education options are quite pricey.”

The no-strings attached scholarship program grants students the freedom to pursue an internship at any Software Engineering firm of their choosing, and is aimed at uplifting and further enhancing the valuable talent pool of IT specialists Sri Lanka has become renowned for.

Concluding, Karunaratne noted: “As a circular business, we believe in the ideals of giving back to society in whatever way we can.  Sri Lanka’s greatest asset is its human capital. The launch of Springboard is done with the aim of investing into, and widening Sri Lanka’s tech talent pool. In doing so, we also aim to eliminate the barriers students face in choosing computer science as a career path.”
