BIGD conducts Research to Action Workshop to Celebrate its 11th Anniversary

(BIGD) on 26 June 2024 (LBN)

Participants at a Workshop hosted by the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD) on 26 June 2024 in the BRAC Center auditorium, Dhaka to mark its 11th anniversary, reflected on how research can generate actionable outcomes to bridge the gap between research and action.

Participants of the workshop examined five BIGD studies to consider the ways forward, potential challenges, and key stakeholders who should be involved in implementing the research-to-action agenda. The studies—selected for their potential real-world implications— focused on topics such as real-world governance in primary education; online freelancing to boost women’s labour participation; the significance of home-based childcare in low-income settings; constraints in replacing bricks with the more environment-friendly blocks in construction; and the backlash in promoting comprehensive sexuality education.

At the opening session, Dr. Imran Matin, Executive Director of BIGD, said that the workshop aimed to engage a select group of stakeholders to discuss and generate actionable outcomes in policy, practice, and ideas. Each session included participants from the relevant sector to ensure the most relevant discussions to carry forward the workshop agenda.

On the occasion of its 11th anniversary, BIGD also relaunched Nirjash, a research booklet initially published in 1995. A compilation series on social research projects conducted by BIGD, Nirjash will be disseminated to stakeholders who can impact policies at the grassroots across the country. This includes government officials, NGOs, research and educational institutes, and BRAC employees working at the field level.
