
Charcoal Shilpo Rakkha-O- Samskar Parishad, a panel for the election of Bangladesh Charcoal Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BCCMEA), has announced its manifestos including protecting the industry and major reforms as well as the industry’s development for 2025-2027 tenure.
“The election will be held on March 8. The organization has 43 voters. If we are elected by voters, we will cordially work to protect the industry, and work for major reformations to develop it,” The Parishad’s President Candidate Atikur Rahman told journalists at a press conference held at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) auditorium in the capital on 16 February 2025 Sunday.
In a written statement, said Atikur their industry is passing through a difficult time due to various reasons including setting up unplanned factories across the country, and shortage of raw materials, easy access to environmental clearance, and high shipping charges.
“The BCCMEA needs a talented governing body to resolve the industry’s problem. We also need the government support to protect the industry. We will work to make it compliance and sustainable for the country’s economic development, if we are elected,” he also added.
Atikur Rahman informed that there is an investment of Tk1000 crore in the charcoal industry where 25,000 people are directly engaged.
“We exported Tk350 crore in previous year. We want to build it as a strong industry in future. We have been doing business for the last more than one decade. But, a group of people are now hatching conspiracy against the industry. If we are elected in the upcoming election, we will including the BCCMEA at FBCCI, and set up a permanent office,” he added.
Charcoal Shilpo Rakkha-O- Samskar Parishad Convener Muhammed Nazmul Islam highlighted that, “if we are elected, we will work for converting all factories into compliant factories within few time, attempt to ensure easy access to low-interest loans, health insurance for workers, and organizing fairs in different countries to expand the market.”
Speaking there as the chief guest, Engineer Harun-Ur- Rashid emphasized to work together all, and also seeks government’s policy support to develop the industry.
DRU president Abu Saleh Akon, and businessman Md Monirul Islam among others were also present in the programme.
However, another panel named- Boisommo Birodhi Somonnito Parishad will also contest in the election.
