Bangladesh and the United Kingdom signed ‘Bangladesh-UK Accord on Climate Change’ to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in addressing the global challenges in climate change today at the Foreign Service Academy. H.E. Md. Shahriar Alam, MP, Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs signed the Accord on behalf of the Government of Bangladesh and Rt Hon. Anne- Marie Trevelyan, MP, Hon’ble Minister of State (Indo-Pacific) signed it for the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office of the UK.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, the Global Center on Adaptation and UKaid jointly convened a Roundtable on ‘Adaptation Action in Bangladesh’ on 12 March 2023 at the Foreign Service Academy.
H.E. Md. Shahriar Alam, MP, Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Rt Hon. Anne- Marie Trevelyan, MP, Hon’ble Minister of State in the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, UK and H.E. Habibun Nahar, MP, Hon’ble Deputy Minister, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change delivered remarks in the roundtable discussion.
H.E. Md. Shahab Uddin, MP, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change spoke in the roundtable as Chief Guest.
Prof. Dr. Patrick V. Verkooijen, Chief Executive Officer, Global Center on Adaptation delivered the keynote address in the roundtable while H. E. Robert Chatterton Dickson, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh delivered the opening remarks. Dr. Farhina Ahmed, Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Mr. Abul Kalam Azad, Distinguished Fellow of GCA and former Special Envoy of CVF Bangladesh Presidency, Mr. Jiangbo Ning, Deputy Country Director of Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Prof. Dr. Saleemul Huq, OBE, Director of International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) and Advisor, Global Center on Adaptation were present as Panelists in the Roundtable.
