Bangladesh International Aquaculture & Seafood Show 2024 to be held in Dhaka: MoFL Minister

Bangladesh International Aquaculture and Seafood Show will be held from July 17 to 19 July 2024 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Dhaka and the Honorable Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the show as the chief guest on 18 July 2024, said Fisheries and Livestock Minister Md. Abdur Rahman.

 



 

The minister said these things while delivering the chief guest’s speech at the Information Dissemination Program organized on the occasion of Bangladesh International Aquaculture and Seafood Show 2024 was held at Sheraton Hotel, Banani, Dhaka on 07 July 2024 Sunday.

Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Syed Mahmud Belal Haider and Director General of the Directorate of Fisheries Syed Md Alamgir spoke on the occasion. Besides, ambassadors/high commissioners and heads of foreign missions of different countries, stakeholders and other high officials were present on the occasion.

The Minister of Fisheries and Livestock and Member of the Presidium of Bangladesh Awami League Md. Abdur Rahman said that organizing the Bangladesh International Aquaculture and Seafood Show will be marked as a milestone in our collective progress to advance the aquaculture and seafood sector, which is an essential component of our country’s economy and food security. The event will serve as an important platform for sharing experiences and enhancing cooperation among all participants.

The minister said that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman realized the importance of the fisheries sector for the economic prosperity of northern Bangladesh and took various visionary steps. Bangabandhu said in a speech in 1973, we are people of Bangladesh, I have soil, I have Sonar Bengal, I have jute, I have fish, I have livestock. If we can develop, inshallah, we will not have this day. As a result of the adoption and implementation of timely policies and plans under the visionary guidance of his honorable daughter Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the total production of fish is currently around 50 lakh metric tons.

According to the latest statistics of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Bangladesh is at the 2nd place in the production of inland fish, he expressed hope that one day Bangladesh will rise to the first place in the production of fresh water fish.

He said, we have a target of 85 lakh metric tons of fish production in 2041 and called upon the concerned to continue their best efforts to achieve it.

He called on everyone to work together for aquaculture and marine fish production with the goal of reaching 5 billion US dollars in aquaculture and seafood exports by 2030. He said, Bangladesh has always taken challenges and won challenges. Bangladesh will be able to win in this case too.

It is to be noted that various sessions related to aquaculture and sea food will be held in this three-day event where the possibilities, challenges and what to do to face the challenges of Bangladesh’s fisheries sector will be discussed. This event will have 100 stalls from 35 countries. . New era in Blue economy will start from this event.

Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Directorate of Fisheries, Solidarity Network Asia Limited is organizing Bangladesh International Aquaculture and Seafood Show 2024. Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Commerce and Bangladesh Frozen Foods Export Association are cooperating in this arrangement.
