Axiata Group’s Security Transformation with H One on Microsoft Sentinel Implementation

Venura Mendis - CEO - H One

In an era where cyber threats are becoming increasingly sophisticated, organizations need to stay ahead with proactive security measures and rapid response capabilities. Recognizing this, Axiata Group embarked on a large-scale security transformation to modernize its cybersecurity infrastructure. Partnering with H One, a leading Microsoft solutions provider, Axiata successfully migrated to Microsoft Sentinel—one of the largest deployments of its kind in the region—enhancing security and operational efficiency by migrating over 7,600+ assets across 18 tenants from 12 Axiata subsidiaries based in 5 countries.

Overcoming the Limitations of Legacy Security Systems

Prior to the transformation, Axiata relied on an on-premises Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) solution that posed several challenges. Scalability was a major issue, with the system unable to expand to meet the group’s growing security needs. Limited resources meant security teams were under pressure to manage threats manually, slowing response times. Additionally, maintaining hardware and infrastructure required constant upgrades, adding complexity and costs to security operations.

To address these limitations, Axiata sought a cloud-native solution that provides real-time threat detection, advanced multistage attack detection with Fusion, automation, and centralized security management. After evaluating multiple solutions, Microsoft Sentinel emerged as the ideal choice due to its AI-driven analytics, seamless scalability, and automation capabilities. The decision to move forward with Sentinel, implemented by H One, was a strategic move to future-proof Axiata’s cybersecurity framework.

Strengthening Security with AI and Automation

With Microsoft Sentinel in place, Axiata now benefits from a robust, cloud-native security platform designed to detect, analyze, and respond to threats in real-time. AI-powered security analytics allow for more accurate threat detection, while automated response capabilities significantly reduce incident resolution times. The shift from an on-premises environment to a fully integrated cloud-based security model has also improved operational efficiency and scalability, providing Axiata with greater visibility and control across all its 18 tenants.

This transformation is not just a technological upgrade—it represents a significant milestone in Axiata’s journey towards enhanced digital resilience. As one of the region’s largest cloud native SIEM migrations, this project sets a new standard for security modernization.

H One’s Role in Driving a Seamless Migration

The successful migration to Microsoft Sentinel was a direct result of the strong collaboration between Axiata Cyber Fusion Center (CFC) and H One. Axiata’s skilled internal cybersecurity team and robust resources were crucial in the project’s success. By working closely with CFC, H One ensured that the solution was perfectly tailored to their unique needs, enabling seamless integration with their existing infrastructure. Their vast experience in managing cybersecurity for the Axiata Group, combined with H One’s cloud transformation and security modernization expertise, created a powerful synergy.

H One’s technical leadership and deep technical expertise complemented Axiata’s capabilities, allowing the migration to be completed in just six months with minimal disruption. This collaborative effort enhanced Axiata’s security posture, scalability, and operational efficiency. The success of the project not only demonstrates the strength of the partnership but also reinforces H One’s role as a trusted partner for large-scale security transformations.

“At H One, we are proud to be at the forefront of Axiata’s security transformation, implementing Microsoft Sentinel to redefine their cybersecurity strategy at scale,” said Venura Mendis, CEO of H One. “This collaboration is more than a technology upgrade—it is a decisive step toward a future-proof security framework that enables Axiata to anticipate, respond, and adapt to emerging cyber threats with intelligence and agility. Our role in this transformation underscores H One’s leadership in cloud security and our commitment to driving enterprise resilience through innovation.”

Axiata’s Vision for Long-Term Security Resilience

For Axiata, the move to Microsoft Sentinel is more than just an upgrade—it is a strategic investment in long-term security resilience. The platform’s ability to deliver intelligent insights and automated threat response ensures that Axiata remains protected against evolving cyber risks.

“Axiata’s move to Microsoft Sentinel, in collaboration with H One, is a key investment in our long-term security resilience. Together, we’ve implemented a solution that enhances our ability to detect and respond to emerging threats, while reinforcing our leadership in digital innovation” said Suresh Srinivasan, Group Head of Cyber Security and Data Privacy at Axiata Group.

Beyond security enhancements, this transformation aligns with Axiata’s broader business strategy. By leveraging cutting-edge technology to safeguard its operations, the company is also reinforcing its position as a leader in digital innovation.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Cybersecurity at Axiata

With Microsoft Sentinel now fully integrated, Axiata Group is well-positioned to continue enhancing its cybersecurity framework with further optimizations and advanced threat intelligence. H One remains committed to supporting Axiata and other enterprises in their digital transformation journeys, ensuring they remain resilient in an ever-changing cybersecurity landscape.

This collaboration between Axiata, H One, and Microsoft not only sets a new benchmark for security transformation in the region but also highlights the power of strategic technology partnerships in driving digital resilience at scale.
