Atlas, a leading learning brand in Sri Lanka, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State Ministry of Women and Child Affairs to financially aid 250 schoolchildren from underprivileged communities through the timely Atlas SipSavi Scholarship Programme. Understanding that education is the key to break the cycle of poverty, Atlas SipSavi financially supports children from struggling families by sponsoring their education from Grade 01 up to O’Levels.

The official signing event took place at the State Ministry of Women and Child Affairs premises on the 14th of February, 2023. It included the participation of Asitha Samaraweera – Managing Director (Atlas), Namal Liyanage – Commissioner (Probation Department and Child Care Services) and Sadeeka Liyanage – Assistant Commissioner (Probation Department and Child Care Services).

With the shared commitment to transform the educational landscape in Sri Lanka, the recent MoU is an extension to the existing partnership between Atlas and the State Ministry of Women and Child Affairs. Building on its initial aim of supporting 200 children to continue their vital school education despite economic uncertainties, the Atlas SipSavi Scholarship Programme will now facilitate 50 additional scholarships to enable more deserving children to reach their fullest potential and secure better opportunities for the future.

“Education is a fundamental right, and every child deserves access to quality education. As Sri Lankans, it is our duty to cultivate an environment where future generations can thrive and reach their fullest potential. Keeping this in mind, we are proud to upgrade our existing partnership with the State Ministry of Women and Child Affairs, extending our SipSavi initiative to grant scholarships to children from underprivileged communities in Sri Lanka, giving them adequate resources to continue their vital school education,” stated Asitha Samaraweera, Managing Director, Atlas.

He added, “Through this scholarship programme, we hope to ease the financial burden on children who are most in danger of dropping out of school, so they can continue their educational pursuits with no fear. By taking this initiative, we are helping our children remain hopeful while driving a more equitable and sustainable future for Sri Lanka.”

Reiterating their purpose, Atlas SipSavi addresses various disparities and difficulties faced by numerous school children from poverty-stricken families. The initiative largely contributes towards the nation’s efforts to provide equitable access to learning opportunities for all Sri Lankan children by providing financial aid, essential learning tools and better learning environments. Through the provision of scholarships, donations of school supplies and investment in the critical development of school infrastructures, Atlas SipSavi will continue to empower Sri Lanka’s future generation of leaders by supporting the right to education and inspiring schoolchildren island-wide.

Atlas Axillia Co. (Private) Limited, formerly known as Ceylon Pencil Company (Private) Limited, was founded in 1959 and has since grown to become Sri Lanka’s leading learning brand. Atlas has created a strong connection with Sri Lankan consumers, having recently secured the ‘Local Brand of the Year’ Gold Award and ‘CSR Brand of the Year’ Bronze Award at SLIM Brand Excellence Awards 2022.
