18th March 2025, Colombo: On World Recycling Day, Fonterra Brands Lanka, through its flagship brand Anchor, reaffirms its commitment to sustainability by showcasing how recycling can create both environmental and social impact.

As part of its ongoing sustainability initiatives, Anchor has collaborated with Eco Maximus and Phoenix Industries to introduce innovative recycling efforts that generate meaningful change. By repurposing the brown kraft paper traditionally used for milk powder shipments, Anchor has successfully produced exercise books for schoolchildren, ensuring that waste is redirected for a valuable cause. The initial batch of these books was distributed in late 2024, with ongoing distribution scheduled for 2025 and beyond. Over time, Anchor has transformed the brown kraft paper used for milk powder shipments into more than 10,000 exercise books, benefiting 5,000 schoolchildren across Sri Lanka.

Furthering its sustainability efforts, Anchor has partnered with Phoenix Industries to produce durable school furniture, including chairs and desks. This initiative not only reduces plastic waste but also enhances the learning environments of children in need, creating a lasting impact on local communities.

“With over 48 years of heritage, Anchor has been a trusted dairy brand in Sri Lanka, and our commitment extends beyond providing quality nutrition. Through our latest sustainability efforts, we aim to demonstrate how businesses can transform waste into value while fostering a better future for our communities.

Additionally, the brand has expanded its recycling efforts by refurbishing nine public spaces, including schools, religious sites and hospitals reinforcing its role in improving community infrastructure through sustainable practices.

Beyond enhancing the quality of its dairy products with its recent relaunch, Anchor continues to champion sustainability and social responsibility, driven by its brand purpose of fostering a generation built on goodness.
