‘Amar Char, Amar Palli’ will be Formed to Improve the Fortunes of Char People: LGRD State Minister

Abdul Wadud, Minister of State for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD), said that work is being done to improve the fortunes of the people of the Char area through the Market for Chars-MFORC project. We are taking up bigger projects through Rural Development Academy. By forming ‘Amar Char, Amar Palli’ with 36 thousand Chars from all over the country, the fate of Char people will be permanently improved.

 



 

He said these things to reporters after inaugurating the Bangladesh Rural Development Board’s six-storey exhibition and sales center building adjacent to the Rangpur metropolis terminal on 29 June 2024 Saturday, morning.

The state minister said that the fate of the people of the northern region has improved during the tenure of the current government. This government has built a university in Rangpur, continued various development activities including six-lane roads. I was impressed to hear about the development of the government from the mouth of the people of Char area. Rangpur is developing and will continue to do so.

He further said that ‘Udkonik’ has provided skill development training to poor men and women of northern region as well as disbursed loans, which has been instrumental in creating entrepreneurship. He urged entrepreneurs to produce products while maintaining quality standards.

Earlier, after the inauguration, the LGRD state minister visited the stalls of shatranji, jute products, various types of designed cloths produced by the entrepreneurs of Bangladesh Rural Development Board’s Udkonik project and praised the rich color shatranji which is GI product recognized.

Then State Minister Abdul Wadud participated in the exchange meeting with the participation of the entrepreneurs of the Udkonik project. Under the chairmanship of BRDB Director General Abdul Ghaffar Khan, Secretary of Rural Development and Cooperative Department Mosammat Shahanara Khatun, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mobashwer Hassan gave speeches as special guests.

In the speech of the special guest, Rural Development and Cooperative Department Secretary Mosammat Shahanara Khatun said that one should not be an entrepreneur, one should help others to become entrepreneurs. BRDB entrepreneurs need to use the online platform for product manufacturing as well as product branding. He urged the concerned to display the products of entrepreneurs in various fairs.

At that time Rabeya Sultana, Deputy Director of BRDB Rangpur, Ferdous Mamun Shimul, Director of Udkonik Project, government officials, journalists and entrepreneurs were present.

It should be noted that a total of Tk 9 crore 44 lakh has been spent on the construction of the six-storied exhibition and sales center building of the newly constructed Bangladesh Rural Development Board in Rangpur. Apart from the sales center, the building houses the offices of the departmental and district officers, training rooms and laboratories.
