Amana Bank recently participated in the IsDB Annual Meeting, held from 27th to the 30th of April, at the King Faisal Conference Centre, Intercontinental Hotel, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Coinciding with IsDB’s Golden Jubilee, the IsDB Annual Meeting marks five decades of dedicated efforts towards socio-economic development in member countries and beyond. Amana Bank was represented at the event by Managing Director/CEO Mohamed Azmeer, Chief Risk Officer M M S Quvylidh and Vice President – Retail Banking and Marketing Siddeeque Akbar.

Held alongside the World Economic Forum, the IsDB Annual Meeting was held under the theme “Cherishing Our Past, Charting Our Future: Originality, Solidarity, and Prosperity,” featuring over 100 speakers, 4000+ participants, and 30 sessions spanning over four days. Discussions ranged from leveraging Islamic finance to develop sustainable and resilient infrastructure, to exploring pathways for tackling multidimensional poverty. The summit also included roundtable discussions providing insights into environmental challenges, while highlighting the role of SMEs in national development agendas.

Coinciding with the main IsDB summit, Amana Bank was also featured in the IsDP Private Sector Forum, a platform to share experiences, success stories & best practices. Through engaging discussions and networking sessions, the Bank showcased how it is driving impact through sustainability including sustainable financing projects, financial inclusion activities, financial literacy programmes, women empowerment initiatives and community outreach activities, notably through the OrphanCare programme, of which the Bank is the founder sponsor.

Reflecting on Amana Bank’s participation at the two events, Managing Director/CEO Mohamed Azmeer stated, “As a vital platform encouraging socio-economic development-based conversations, collaborations and innovative solutions to address global challenges, we are honoured to have participated in the IsDB Annual Meetings and Private Sector Forum. Despite Sri Lanka not being an IsDB member country, the IsDB group has made an exception and invested in Amana Bank as its principal shareholder, and provided Amana Bank a platform through these forums to share its success story with others. In line with the conference theme, we look forward to continuing our engagement and contributing to the advancement of sustainable development goals for the betterment of society.”
