Allianz Lanka Rolls Out “Restart the Heart” in a Bid to Save Lives on the Road!

Keeping true to its commitment to “protecting what is precious to you”, Allianz Lanka – one of Sri Lanka’s premier insurers and a member of the global Allianz SE Group – launched its “Restart the Heart” campaign on the 11th of May 2024. Planned as an ongoing series to drive awareness about emergency care techniques, such as CPR, this first edition of “Restart the Heart” was conducted with a focus on taxi drivers – the unsung heroes of the road.

Allianz Lanka placed its focus on taxi drivers as they form the backbone of affordable transportation in the country. Furthermore, their presence on Sri Lanka’s roads is ubiquitous, which makes them ideally placed to save lives on the road in an unexpected situation. CPR or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is one of the most useful and easily applied lifesaving techniques, if performed correctly, in the event an individual has stopped breathing or their heart stops. This is common during road accidents or in the event of a heart attack on the road. Thus, by equipping individuals who frequent our roads, such as taxi drivers, with CPR training, it increases their ability and chances of helping to save lives in an emergency.

Accordingly, members of the Three-Wheeler Drivers Welfare Association of Fort were present at the event, which was hosted by Allianz Lanka, in collaboration with the Resuscitation Council – College of Anaesthesiologists & Intensivists, and Lions Club International. The inaugural session of “Restart the Heart” was a resounding success with over 70 individuals actively participating in an awareness and training workshop on CPR, and other techniques and practices that could save a life in the event of a sudden heart attack.

Discussing the initiative, Kasun Yatawara – Head of Marketing at Allianz Lanka said, “This is only the first step, and just the beginning. “Restart the Heart” will be an ongoing public service programme, in an effort to ensure safety on the road in Sri Lanka. We plan to expand this initiative across the country in the future, covering as many groups as we can, because we believe that every individual is precious, and every life matters!”
