13th December 2023: AIA renewed the partnership with and continues to support the Sri Lanka Cancer Society for the 5th year. With a steadfast commitment to helping people live healthier, longer, better lives, AIA continues to donate LKR 100 on behalf of every new policy sold since 2019, to the Sri Lanka Cancer Society.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in this regard was signed between AIA CEO Chathuri Munaweera and Cancer Society Chairperson Anoja Karunaratne, at the Cancer Society Annual General Meeting, held earlier this year.

Over the years, AIA’s donations have played a crucial role in supporting the Cancer Society’s mission in Sri Lanka. These funds are dedicated for the provision of care and solace to needy cancer patients and increasing awareness on the prevention and treatment of cancer, which is a growing health concern in the country. In fact, Non-Communicable Diseases such as Cancer continues to pose a substantial threat accounting for over 80% of deaths in Sri Lanka, which is well above the global rate of 74%.

AIA’s Chief Marketing Officer Sasith Bambaradeniya noted, “As a company committed to making a positive impact on the lives of Sri Lankans, our brand purpose revolves around helping people live healthier, longer, better lives. Meaningful community engagement is a fundamental part of fulfilling this commitment. Cancer is one of the nation’s leading health concerns and we will not waiver in our commitment to lend a hand to those in need even amidst these difficult times. We deeply appreciate the invaluable work carried out by the Sri Lanka Cancer Society in this regard, and this gives our employees and Wealth Planners a profound sense of purpose to know that we are helping the battle against this dreaded illness, physically, financially and emotionally.”

Sri Lanka Cancer Society Chairperson, Anoja Karunaratne, expressed gratitude for AIA’s undeterred support despite challenges faced, which was instrumental in providing treatment to needy cancer patients during tough times. The contributions made by AIA are primarily directed towards the ‘Bandaranayake Memorial Homes’ which offers care facilities to patients in need, and increasing awareness about cancer prevention, early detection and treatment – an essential part of educating the public. We rely on external support to provide direct care for patients who are undergoing this ordeal while trying to ensure they receive the best of care and support, both medically and emotionally. So, it has been an immense strength to have AIA’s support for our cause.”
