The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Jaffna.
This agreement will pave way for ACCA and the Department of Accounting, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce at the University, to work in collaboration to ensure that students gain the requisite accountancy and finance capability to meet the needs of a globalised and challenging marketplace. It also sets the stage for the University of Jaffna to strategically position themselves in helping to build an ecosystem which promotes finance literacy and capacity development in the northern region of the country.
Furthermore, the partnership gives the University’s students the ability to earn a world recognized professional qualification and a degree at the same time when graduating.
With the current economic situation in the country resulting in many of the country’s organizations facing immense challenges for survival, where financial literacy, professionalism and ethics are proving to be critical factors to the success of every business, this MOU is a timely move in terms of capacity building and knowledge dissemination of good finance management and governance in key regions of the country.
The MoU signing ceremony took place virtually and was graced by the leadership teams of both organizations.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna, Prof.S.Srisatkunarajah stated “we share similar values and missions with ACCA that includes a drive to increase access to finance education for our young people. This MOU exemplifies these values and offers students an excellent route to a unique pathway to qualify as a professional accountant. Cultivating partnerships with global organizations like ACCA is a part of our efforts as a leading university to drive capacity development and student employability in our region.”
Head of South Asia at ACCA Nilusha Ranasinghe said “this MOU will help us deliver learners with cross-sector accounting and finance knowledge, skills and professional & ethical values needed in all organizations and every industry today, that in turn will improve the students work readiness. This MOU therefore will help students to acquire additional skill sets and pick up professional qualifications along with their degree course and add value and enhance their competitive edge, enabling them to become finance and business leaders on a global platform.”
