Eight Sri Lankan shuttlers are set to participate in the South Asian Under-15 and Under-17 Badminton Championships in Pakistan, marking a significant moment for the nation’s young talent. The delegation will travel to Pakistan for this regional junior championship, accompanied by coach Rajitha Dahanayake, assistant coach Iresh Maduranga de Silva, and lady chaperone Tharanga Wimalasuriya.
The championship, organized under the auspices of Badminton Asian and hosted by the Pakistan Badminton Federation, will take place from March 3-7 at the Pakistan Sports Complex in Islamabad. The event will feature team competitions on the first and second days, followed by individual events on the 5th and 6th days, culminating with the finals on March 7.
Participants from Sri Lanka in the Under-15 category include boys’ singles, doubles, and mixed doubles players Amawann Amarasinha and Chenal Dewshan Madapathage, and girls’ singles, doubles, and mixed doubles players Thenuki Ayansa de Silva and Binuri Jananga. In the Under-17 category, participants include boys’ singles, doubles, and mixed doubles players Mihila Ravishka Krishna Jayaweera and Tejana Samuditha Herath, along with girls’ singles, doubles, and mixed doubles players Nethmi Amaya Ratnayake and Lakshana Sajeewakumar.
