Seylan Developments PLC is pleased to announce that it has completed work on a significant Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) 2023 initiative. The initiative involved the funding and development of a water purification plant at the Padaviya Mahasen Primary School in the Anuradhapura District of Sri Lanka.

The Padaviya Mahasen Primary School, home to 545 students and 20 teachers, faces the challenge of water-related issues, contributing to the prevalence of kidney diseases in the region. Presently, the school lacks a proper drinking water facility, compelling parents to manually fill clay pots in classrooms throughout the day. This arduous process not only poses a considerable challenge but also places an undue burden on parents who find it difficult to allocate time for this demanding task.

Recognizing the critical need for clean and accessible drinking water in the Padaviya community, Seylan Developments PLC has undertaken the responsibility to address this issue through a CSR initiative. The company has invested a substantial sum of Rs 1.5 million towards the establishment of the water purification plant at the Padaviya Mahasen Primary School.

This endeavour aligns with Seylan Developments’ commitment to sustainable and community-centric development. The water purification plant project aims to provide a reliable and safe source of drinking water for the students and faculty of Padaviya Mahasen Primary School, contributing positively to the overall well-being of the community.

“We are proud to complete this initiative to enhance the quality of life for the students and staff at Padaviya Mahasen Primary School,” said S. Palihawadana, Deputy Chairman at Seylan Developments PLC. “Through our CSR efforts, we strive to make a meaningful impact on the communities we serve, and this project is a testament to our dedication to sustainable development. The young minds of our nation deserve access to clean drinking water, no matter where they are in the country. This project is only the first step in our journey to eliminate water scarcity in Sri Lanka,”

The groundbreaking ceremony for the handover of the water purification plant project was held on the 31st of January 2024. Seylan Developments PLC and Seylan Bank will continue to collaborate with local stakeholders, government authorities, and the school community to ensure the successful maintenance and continuity of this vital project.
