SLASSCOM recently conducted an orientation program for the newly appointed Sri Lankan Ambassadors and High Commissioners designated for overseas missions, In a strategic initiative aimed at fostering international partnerships and promoting Sri Lanka’s IT /BPM sector. The event, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, focused on showcasing the ingenuity of Sri Lanka’s IT BPM talent and the vast potential and opportunities available in the country.
The primary objective of the orientation program was to equip the newly appointed Ambassadors and High Commissioners with insights into the capabilities of the Sri Lankan IT and BPM industry. Mr. Nishan Mendis, Vice Chairman of SLASSCOM and Consulting Leader at Deloitte, along with Mrs. Lakshmi Jaliyagodage-Sinor, Program Manager Forums at SLASSCOM, led the informative session.
A distinguished lineup of Sri Lanka’s diplomatic representatives has been unveiled, each designated for key roles on the global stage. Among them are Mrs. Kshenuka Senewiratne, High Commissioner to the Republic of India; Mr. W.M. Dharmapala, High Commissioner to The People’s Republic of Bangladesh; and Mr. W. K. C. Weerasena, Ambassador to The Kingdom of Belgium and the European Union. Additionally, Ms. M. E. M.J Weninger Ambassador to the Republic of Egypt, Mr. S.A. Rodrigo as Ambassador to The Italian Republic, and Air Chief Marshal (Rtd.) S. K. Pathirana as Ambassador to The Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.
Further additions include Admiral (Rtd.) R. C. Wijegunarathne, designated as High Commissioner to The Islamic Republic of Pakistan; Mr. D. D. M. S. B. Dissanayake, appointed as High Commissioner to the Republic of Singapore; Mr. Rohitha Bogollagama, designated as High Commissioner to The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland; and Admiral (Rtd.) D. N. S. Ulugetenne, Ambassador to the Republic of Cuba. This esteemed group is poised to represent Sri Lanka’s interests across diverse nations, fostering diplomatic ties and promoting the country’s economic and cultural agenda on the global stage.
The orientation covered a comprehensive range of topics, with a particular emphasis on the capabilities of Sri Lanka’s IT and BPM sector.
The ultimate goal of the orientation program is to empower these diplomatic representatives to actively promote foreign investments into Sri Lanka and facilitate market access for Sri Lankan companies on the global stage.
This proactive measure taken by SLASSCOM and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to strengthen Sri Lanka’s position in the international business arena aligns with the broader objective of fostering economic growth through strategic alliances and promoting Sri Lanka as a hub for IT and BPM excellence.
