Global authority on workplace culture, Great Place To Work® announced its regional list for Best Workplaces in Asia™ for 2023  recently and felicitated winners at an awards ceremony held  at Shangri-La Colombo.

Employees reported their experiences of trust, innovation, organization values, and leadership effectiveness, and 200 organizations were selected and ranked based on the feedback. Organizations were evaluated on how well they are creating a For All™ workplace experience, where all employees feel included no matter who they are or what they do.

Notably, at the Best Workplaces in Asia, more employees reported high levels of care, both from their managers and from co-workers.  As a result, these workplaces have impressive employee engagement with 90% of employees reporting that “people give extra effort on the job”. For employees at the Best Workplaces, 90% want to stay at their organization, compared to just 58% at the typical workplace.

Topping the list once again in the multinational category are transportation company DHL Express and hotelier Hilton – both holding onto their first and second-place rankings, respectively among 30 MNCs recognized.  The 2 companies from Sri Lanka, DHL (Keells) and Hilton (Sri Lanka) made significant contributions to their respective multinational corporations, thereby bolstering their positions on the prestigious Asia List. Additionally, Maersk, Servier, Deloitte, Medtronic, Ericsson and Coats were recognized among the Best MNCs.

In the large category, Dankotuwa Porcelain and Gamma Pizzakraft Lanka topped the list with first and second ranks respectively among 70 organizations.  Other notable contenders who earned recognition on the Large Category list included AmSafe Bridport (#17), Certis Lanka Security Solutions (#20), Certis Lanka Courier Services (#30), and Talawakelle Tea Estates (#40), Royal Fernwood Porcelain (#41), Horana Plantations (#48), SYNERGEN Health (#55), DIMO (#57), McLarens Group (#64), Aqua Dynamics (#69), and Certis Lanka Home Nursing & Swiftcare (#70).

In the Small and Medium Category workplaces Oxford College of Business returned to the list as the highest ranked Sri Lankan organization among 100 SMEs at No. 2. SYNERGEN Technology Labs entered the list at eighteenth position. Other notable honorees included BISTEC Global Services and Loop1, who secured the thirtieth and forty-sixth positions respectively, Certis Lanka Secure Logistics and Ascentic also made their mark, ranking fifty-fourth and fifty-sixth, whilst Uzabase, Expack Corrugated Cartons and BoardPAC ranked seventy-seventh, ninety-fourth and ninety-sixth.

Great Place to Work selected the 2023 Best Workplaces in Asia List by analyzing organizations’ workplace programs and surveying 2.1 million employees across 34 countries in Asia and the Middle East. The responses represent the experience of 5.9 million employees across nearly 2500 organizations in the region.

To be considered, organizations must first be identified as outstanding in their country by appearing on one or more of our 15 national Best Workplaces™ Lists in Bahrain, Greater China (including China, Hong Kong and Taiwan), India, Indonesia, Japan, Kuwait, Oman, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, UAE, or Vietnam during 2022 or early 2023.

Organizations rank in three size categories: small and medium (10–499 employees); large (500+ employees); and multinational. Multinational organizations are also assessed on their efforts to create great workplaces across multiple countries in the region. They must appear on at least two national lists in Asia and the Middle East and have at least 1,000 employees worldwide with at least 40% (or at least 5,000) of those employees located outside the headquarters country.
