12th June 2023, Colombo: Vision Care, Sri Lanka’s largest vision and eye wear solutions provider, has stepped forward to support the 1990 Suwa Seriya Foundation’s ‘Adopt an Ambulance’ project by funding the maintenance of a Suwa Seriya ambulance which will be based in Kurunegala to serve citizens in the surrounding areas.

Kurunegala was chosen as the location for the Vision Care ambulance as the company is committed to deliver quality healthcare in outstation areas where it can impact a large segment of the population. Earlier this year, the company extended its Kurunegala branch by adding a state-of-the-art Eye and ENT Diagnostic Centre to provide customers with a wider selection of eye and hearing care solutions all under one roof.

Since inception, Vision Care has carried out various initiatives that have served to improve the lives of Sri Lankans islandwide. Vision Care celebrated its 25 year anniversary in 2017 by officially launching ‘Nethralokana Sathkara’, a pioneering initiative that marked the company’s milestone by distributing 25,000 spectacles free-of-charge among deserving people from underprivileged communities from different parts of Sri Lanka. Currently, the company allocates funds from each pair of spectacles, spectacle lenses and sunglasses that it sells to ‘Nethralokana Sathkara’. The funds are utilised to carry out a range of projects within the main three focus areas. Additionally, it also carries out regular free eye health camps in islandwide, especially in underserved communities.

Vision Care General Manager Harsha Maduranga stated, “Vision Care has a long history of helping citizens from underserved communities to access healthcare. Our primary CSR initiative, Nethralokana Sathkara, and others have helped transform the lives of thousands of Sri Lankans. This 1990 Suwa Seriya Foundation’s ‘Adopt an Ambulance’ project is yet another way we can contribute towards the betterment of such communities. We are proud to be a part of this massive effort by the country’s corporates to keep this vital service going.”

Chairman of the 1990 Suwa Seriya Foundation Dumindra Ratnayaka commented, “We are grateful to Vision Care for coming forward to adopt an ambulance. These ambulances play a significant role in helping the Sri Lankan people in their day-to-day lives by rushing individuals daily to hospitals islandwide. It must be noted that 1990 is an integral part of primary healthcare in this country, and it is appreciated immensely by people in the rural parts of the country.”

With over 30 years of service excellence, Vision Care has transformed healthcare in Sri Lanka by offering the widest selection of eye and hearing care products and services including spectacles, sunglasses, contact lenses and hearing aids. All Vision Care branches have well-qualified, experienced personnel who use state-of-the-art technology to provide the best quality eye and hearing care solutions. Customers are able to choose from top global eye wear brands for men and women such as Ray-Ban, Vogue, Emporio Armani, Polo Ralph Lauren and many others.

The 1990 Suwa Seriya Foundation was established by Act of Parliament and provides island-wide, free pre-hospital emergency care to all Sri Lankans. The service has around 300 ambulances that help to rush over 1,000 Sri Lankans islandwide, mostly rural areas, to hospitals daily.
