SLASSCOM to open up opportunities in the IT/BPM Sector in Eastern Region of the Country

SLASSCOM’s Regional Development Forum is collaborating with Eastern and Southeastern Universities to organize the IT/BPM Career Fair 2023 in the Eastern region of the country. The event will be held from May 30th to June 1st, with the first two days hosted at Eastern University in Chenkalady and the remaining days at Southeastern University in Oluvil.

The IT/BPM Career Fair is a crucial undertaking by SLASSCOM to support and maintain the IT/BPM industry in Sri Lanka, which is a significant contributor to the country’s economy. SLASSCOM’s Regional Development Forum is actively working to promote the industry throughout Sri Lanka, including raising awareness, forming partnerships with educational institutions, and delivering IT/BPM programs in different regions to improve graduates’ skills. The IT/BPM Career Fair is a vital component of these initiatives.

Jehan Perera, General Council Member of SLASSCOM, outlining the details of the two events     said “ in order to cater to the unique needs of this region, we have designed the career fair to include a range of activities such as awareness sessions, tech talks, workshops, job interviews and offering internships and career opportunities to talent in the region. These events will offer valuable opportunities for participants to gain insights into the latest developments and emerging trends in the IT/BPM sector, as well as practical skills and knowledge to help them thrive in this rapidly changing industry. Therefore, whether it is for a student, recent graduate, or seasoned professional, these events will provide a platform to learn, network and advance their careers in the exciting and dynamic world of IT/BPM.”

He added that companies will also have the opportunity to mark their presence in the region to help create awareness amongst undergraduates on diversified career options and opportunities available in the IT/BPM industry. This includes walk-in-interviews and resume collection for students for internships or recruitment, thereby supporting the companies in the region the opportunity in hiring competitive talent. “Our aim is to make this event a unique opportunity for students, industry professionals and other stakeholders to come together and discuss the current state and future prospects of the IT/BPM industry” he stated.

Giving an insight into the overall objectives of the Regional Forum Haridhu Abeygoonaratne Director of SLASSCOM explained “the Regional Development Forum of SLASSCOM is dedicated to promoting and sustaining the growth of the IT/BPM industry in the regions. In pursuit of this goal, we actively seek out partnerships and collaborations with a wide range of stakeholders, including government ministries and agencies, universities, regional IT hubs, communities, and certification bodies. By working closely with these organizations, we hope to create awareness of the opportunities and benefits of the IT/BPM industry at the provincial level and deliver targeted programs that meet the specific needs of each region. Through these initiatives, our goal is to help build a thriving and sustainable IT/BPM ecosystem that benefits all stakeholders, from businesses and entrepreneurs to job seekers and students.”
