Inaugural MBA OPEN award over rupees 1 million in cash for winners

 



 

 

Sri Lanka Badminton Association (SLBA) Level 1 ranking tournament, The Mercantile Badminton Association (MBA) Open Badminton Championships was held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium from 23rd to 28th October 2022.

The tournament was organized by the MBA jointly together with SLBA for the first time, Tournament saw events conducted under 66 categories, including Open men’s and women’s singles, doubles, and mixed doubles as well as age group events from under 13 and above.

All these events contributed towards the national rankings and was based on SLBA Rankings published on the official web portal of the badminton governing body. Li Ning shuttlecocks were used during the tournament, the official partner of the event.

The Championship worked out on a knock-out basis and all matches were played according to the rules and regulations approved by the BWF and as adopted by SLBA.

The highlight of tournament were the valuable gifts awarded to all winners. Winners received cash awards worth LKR 1 million and gifts worth over LKR 2 million. All participants were also recognized and awarded certificates appreciating their participation to the event.

The final award ceremony was held on the 28th with the participation of Mr.Rohan De Silva (President SLBA), SLBA Officials, Past MBA officials and Sponsor representatives.
