The Hambantota International Port Group (HIPG) won double recognition at the Global Port Forum Dubai, being named Multipurpose Port/Terminal of the Year 2022 and Port Infrastructure Development of the Year 2022 for the second consecutive year. The port was honoured with these accolades amidst several international port operators and industry leaders gathered at the grand Awards ceremony held at Dubai’s Shangri-La Hotel.
CEO of HIPG, Johnson Liu, General Manager – Commercial & Marketing, Lance Zuo and Senior Manager – Commercial & Marketing, Nishantha Gamage joined industry representatives from several parts of the world who came together for networking and knowledge sharing, which was an opportunity to strategise the strengthening of modern day supply chains.
Johnson Liu, CEO of HIPG said, “While ports are competitors when they have a stand-alone strategy in building supply routes and reducing logistics costs, there is a necessity for ports to have a certain understanding and connectivity. While HIPG is doing the utmost to enhance service levels, efficiency, productivity and quality within all areas of our operations, there are areas that can prove a significant challenge and optimising relationships with other international operators can ensure efficient supply chains, use of effective technology, and information sharing that will further streamline infrastructure. Forums such as these help us to meet peer to peer for discussions on how we can better the system. We are therefore greatly appreciative of the time afforded to us for networking.”
“Being recognised as the ‘Multi-Purpose Port/Terminal of The Year 2022’ is a great achievement for the port because it is a recognition of our capability to provide the entire gamut of services including general cargo, Ro-Ro, passenger, bunkering, bulk terminal, gas and project cargo. The other accolade ‘Port Infrastructure Development of the Year 2022’ is also a confirmation that we are becoming the logistics hub in the region, with warehouses, storage areas and distribution centres set up within the port premises. We are perfectly located to provide our customers with all the services that would make us one of the best multi-purpose ports in the world,” said Lance Zuo, General Manager, Commercial & Marketing.
The Global Port Forum Awards founded in 2008 is on a mission to improve ports around the world and promote their interests. Every year, the Forum brings together professionals from different areas of the Ports and Terminals industry to network and discuss advanced strategies that will benefit the industry, and also recognises the most valuable contributions made by them.
