Colombo, September 27, 2022: The GE Foundation today announced a donation of US$25,000 to Chrysalis, a Sri Lankan charity organization, to help with humanitarian relief in response to the current economic situation. The donation will aid in providing food security and financial assistance to approximately 950 households in the most vulnerable communities, including the Mullaitivu District in North Sri Lanka. Specifically, the donation will provide food ration packs to 650 families and cash grants to 300 households to meet immediate needs in accordance with humanitarian standard/SPHERE standards and standards established by the local government. Food ration packs will include flour, dhal, rice flour, soya, sugar, coconut oil, and salt to help families for at least one week. The cash grants will support access to medicine, health services, transport, and education needs.
“The GE Foundation is proud to partner with Chrysalis to help hundreds of families in Sri Lanka during this difficult time,” said Linda Boff, President, GE Foundation, and Vice President, GE.
“We hope that this contribution will aid in bringing stability and relief to the select communities in Sri Lanka. We aim to ensure that the necessary resources reach the target communities in a timely manner,” said Mahesh Palashikar, President and CEO, GE South Asia.
“We have close relationships with community leaders, especially women leaders and local authorities that enabled us to understand critical needs and respond effectively via existing networks. The support from GE Foundation will enable us to address urgent needs and plan for medium and long-term needs together with communities. We greatly appreciate the timely support from GE” said Ashika Gunasena, CEO Chrysalis.
