Sri Lanka becomes only the 7th country to produce the legendary confectionary brand

Perfetti Van Melle Lanka (Private) Ltd. announced the commencement of the local manufacturing of Chupa Chups, one of its most recognized and loved brands globally, becoming only the 7th country in the world to do so. The ‘Forever Fun’ confectionary brand, owned and marketed globally by the PVM Group, will be produced at the company’s plant in Seeduwa.

The local manufacture of the popular Spanish lollipop brand consumed world over since 1958, is a matter of great pride for the whole of Sri Lanka, the announcement added, stating that Chupa Chups are currently manufactured only in Spain, Russia, China, Mexico, Vietnam & India.

Mohit Bhalla, Country Manager, Perfetti Van Melle Lanka (Private) Ltd. commented on the significance of this milestone. “Perfetti Van Melle has introduced new & innovative products to Sri Lanka ever since we established our manufacturing plant, with significant investments along the way. The installation of this new line to manufacture Chupa Chups is the company’s largest investment in our 15-year history in Sri Lanka and joins our other well-established brands such as Center Fresh, Alpenliebe, and Mentos, at our state-of-the-art factory in Seeduwa. The locally manufactured Chupa Chups will now be available at a consumer-friendly price ensuring Sri Lankans can continue to enjoy it without paying import prices for it.” He stated.

Sold in over 160 countries with more than a 100 flavours, Chupa Chups were the brainchild of Enric Bernat. Bernat thought the world needs a product that “would be like eating a sweet with a fork” to help rid children of sticky fingers from sweets, and invented the first ever lollipop in 1958 in Spain. The iconic Chupa Chups brand name came to be in 1963, and the famous surrealist artist Salvador Dali sketched what would become the basis of the Chupa Chups logo on a piece of newspaper in 1969, infusing it with greatness from the very beginning.

PVM Group is a privately owned global company that manufactures and distributes sugar confectionery and chewing gum products in over 150 countries.
