The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) successfully concluded a Facebook Live Session on the theme ‘Invest with CSE’, attracting an engaging constant audience of over 150, and over 2.1K views on Facebook. The initiative is a part of the educational campaign by CSE, in association with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC), in line with the World Investor Week 2021 global campaign.

The live session was conducted in Sinhala and covered the fundamentals of investing and growing an investment portfolio with CSE. Representing CSE, Mr. Madhawa Aramandeniya, Executive at CSE Kandy Branch, shared expertise on the said subjects. He explained how potential investors hesitate to explore the stock market, due to the lack of information and myths. A detailed explanation of the CSE’s role in the capital market was provided, as well as a step-by-step guide to investing with the CSE. He went on to emphasize the Digitalization of the stock exchange and the wealth of digital tools available for investors, providing transparency and convenience to all stakeholders. The session fostered an engaging and comprehensive conversation with the participating audience.

Financial literacy is an inextricable factor in the growth of the capital market, and has become even more important amidst the pandemic-induced volatility and the increase in retail investor participation in the recent past. As a key financial sector participant, CSE and SEC ensures that an extensive effort and strategization is applied to promote a financially savvy investment community in Sri Lanka.

The World Investor Week 2021 global campaign, launched recently by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) for the fifth consecutive time, brings together financial organizations across the globe with the objective of promoting investor education and protection.

Joining the global campaign, CSE has organized a series of initiatives to promote investor education and protection, including a Bell Ringing Ceremony, scheduled to be held on 12th October 2021. The event will be live streamed through CSE social media platforms. Other initiatives organized include a social media campaign on financial literacy, advertisements, and workshops for investors. CSE invites Sri Lankans to join these initiatives in their endeavor to elevate financial literacy in the country.
