DFCC Bank launches reusable bags for staff to support environment conservation

DFCC Reusable Bag being presented to CEO, Deputy CEO and staff

2nd, June 2017 Colombo: In a timely move, DFCC Bank’s Community Projects team has launched a DFCC branded recyclable bag for staff – for the first time in the banking industry. Through encouraging the concept of ‘Take Your Own Bag (TYOB)’ among staff, DFCC Bank expects to reduce the use of One million polythene bags per year.

In light of the garbage crisis facing Colombo city and suburbs, this mindful gesture of promoting a recyclable bag amongst staff engages them in making a direct contribution towards reducing the number of polythene bags used.

DFCC is a strong advocate of environment protection and strives to minimize adverse impacts on the environment. Therefore, the Bank continually encourages its clients, employees and service providers to adopt environmentally responsible practices. The Bank also implemented a Social & Environmental Management System (SEMS) in 2015, to assess social and environmental concern before project loans are granted.

Furthermore, the Bank is proactive about educating staff on concepts related to sustainability and environment protection via a module on DFCC’s E-learning portal as well as through regular articles featured in its weekly newsletter. The Bank believes that protecting the environment is not only a matter for the municipal authorities but also for all citizens of this country.
