The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka), which has played a leadership role across the South Asian region over many decades to develop the accounting profession, conducted a programme aimed at facilitating technical support and capacity building for accountants and auditors in Maldives.
The online programme educated Maldivian accountants and auditors on the International Auditing Standards, as well as the tool kit developed for Small and Medium-Sized Practices (SMPs) which enabled participants to gain a deeper understanding of conducting high quality and cost-effective audits in compliance with international standards.
The online programme for the Maldivian accountants and auditors was conducted by Mr. Sanath Fernando, Partner – Ernst & Young Mr. Jerad Dias, Partner – BDO Partners, Mr. Raditha Alahakoon, Partner – KPMG and Mr. Chathumin Gunarathne, Senior Manager – Deloitte.
Following the awareness programme, a Memorandum of Understanding was also signed between CA Sri Lanka and CA Maldives this year, which aims to develop and strengthen the accounting profession in both countries, apart from providing technical support and capacity building. The MoU ceremony was held virtually, and the agreement was signed by Mr. Manil Jayesinghe, President of CA Sri Lanka and Mr. Hassan Ziyath, President of CA Maldives.
Prior to this year’s agreement, in 2015 CA Sri Lanka also signed an MoU with the Auditor General’s Office of Maldives to strengthen and develop the accounting and auditing profession in Maldives.
Over the years, CA Sri Lanka has been instrumental in supporting countries across South Asia including in Maldives, Bhutan and Afghanistan to develop the accounting profession in their respective countries. CA Sri Lanka is a founding member of the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA), which is an apex body of SAARC.
